Our Story
The world does not need another grey room.
Look around. Open any interiors magazine, walk into any new-build show home, scroll through any property listing. What do you see? Grey. White. Safe. Careful. Rooms designed not to offend, not to surprise, not to feel like anything at all.
Riviera House Interiors was created in direct opposition to all of that. We believe that a home should make you feel something — the moment you walk through the door, and every time you cross a room. We believe in colour, in drama, in the kind of beauty that stops people in their tracks and makes them ask: where did you find that?
"Whatever you turn, you feel something. A little bit of life. A little bit of love. That is what beautiful things do."
We are a fine interiors destination in Henley-on-Thames — a curated collection of chandeliers, statement mirrors, table lamps, ceramics, and decorative objects chosen because they do something to a room. They bring it to life.
Old and new. French and English. Antique and alive.
There is no single word for what we do. We mix periods and provenance without apology — a gilded antique mirror beside a contemporary ceramic, a crystal chandelier above a velvet chair, hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper behind a modern sculptural lamp.
The result is something that feels collected rather than decorated. Lived-in rather than staged. Each room tells a story that has been building for years — even when every piece is new.
We believe this approach belongs in every home. Not just grand houses. Not just large rooms. Wherever there is a wall, a surface, a ceiling — there is an opportunity to bring something extraordinary into the everyday.
"Yes. It has to be a black ceiling. And it has to have more chandeliers. There are never enough chandeliers."
What we believe
01 — Colour is not a risk. It is a decision. The grey room is the safe room. But safety is not living. We believe that colour — used with intention, with knowledge, with a good eye — transforms a space from a place you sleep into a place you love. Teal. Crimson. Gold. Duck egg. Amber. These are not accidents. They are choices that change everything.
02 — New and old belong together. The most interesting rooms are never entirely of one moment. A Victorian mirror in a contemporary apartment. A hand-thrown ceramic beside a crystal lamp. An antique rug beneath a modern chair. This is the tension that makes a room feel alive — that sense that it has been gathered over time, by someone with genuine taste.
03 — Light is the most important element. Before the furniture, before the colour, before the objects — there is light. A chandelier does not merely illuminate a room. It defines it. It sets the atmosphere, the warmth, the drama. We have devoted ourselves to the most beautiful sources of light we can find — and we will never stop looking for more.
Bring the light. Live your life beautifully.
This is the simplest way we know to say what we believe. A beautiful object — a chandelier, a mirror, a lamp, a ginger jar on a mantelpiece — does not just decorate a room. It says something about the person who lives there. It says: I pay attention. I care about how this feels. I have chosen to live beautifully.
People walk into our shop in Henley and they pause. They look up at the chandeliers, they move slowly around the room, they say: this is the most beautiful shop I have ever been in. Do you have a store in London? In Chelsea? In Mayfair?
"We started in Henley. We intend to go much further."
